JoJo & The Pinecones is a 2016/17 Lincoln Center Kids Resident Artist and celebrated the release of their album at LC Kids Atrium series at Lincoln Center in January of 2017. The album Night & Day was developed through a residency at Lincoln Center Education is available on iTunes & Spotify.

The New York City based JoJo & The Pinecones bring their skillful musicianship and love of jazz to the family audience. On their first youth focused release, the group known for their distinctive 'jazzed-up pop and popped-up jazz' style as Joelle & The Pinehurst Trio, now share their exceptional talent with a new audience as their all-ages friendly alter ego JoJo & The Pinecones.

On Night & Day, the group who has been praised by NPR and who is known for their frequent performances at The Rainbow Room and Tavern on the Green, present well crafted and swinging jazz music created with families in mind. JoJo & The Pinecones are a band of highly trained jazz musicians who playfully experiment with infusing Americana, folk and pop influences into their music similar to other jazz based musicians like Norah Jones and Jamie Cullum. Lead singer Joelle Lurie is at the center of it all with her bold yet smooth voice that provides a familiar and comforting setting.

Lurie and her musical partner Benjamin Gallina as part of a residency at Lincoln Center Education, co-produced the album and wrote all of the original songs together. Working on this project Lurie and Gallina found themselves coloring outside the lines in the arrangements of these songs to create a unique sound and experience. Lurie recalled listening to music by Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Free to Be You & Me and selections from the American Songbook as a child and applied those influences here in her approach to connect with the younger audience.

With 14 tracks this is a charming, robust and accessible collection of inspired original songs and thoughtfully curated and reimagined, family-friendly jazz standards. The themes of the album reflect mindfulness and awareness of our daily life including being present for the moments that make up your day from beginning to end and the people that you share that time with.

The 'Day' portion of the album is meant to feel energizing and exciting with faster and more upbeat songs to listen to while preparing for and participating in your day where the 'Night' part provides a more soothing and relaxing element, something you might to get ready for bed and go to sleep to.
